Are There Drugs to Help with Gluten Allergies?

Gluten AllergiesIf you suffer from gluten allergies, you might desire the quick relief of a pill that will get rid of your symptoms and still allow you to eat the foods you love. While this magic medication may sound great, it isn’t exactly an option. There are some medications that your doctor can prescribe to help ease some of your reactions, but the only real way to help prevent gluten sensitivity is by removing gluten from your body entirely.

To do that, you must go on a gluten free diet. Below are some suggestions to help you follow such a diet so that you can still get the relief that magic pill would have provided.

Gluten is present in wheat, rye, oats, and barley; but it also shows up in a variety of products that are derived from the gluten. Thus, you never can be too careful when you are getting ready to buy or eat something.

First and foremost, you need to take a good look at the ingredients listed on the item. If there is anything on there that sounds fishy or has blatant gluten origins, you need to step away. Take the time to learn what different ingredients are that are commonly found in foods so you can know if they are related to gluten at all.

When it comes to alcohol, you can’t drink anything that is beer related. That includes malt wine coolers. These might look desirable, but you are better off going with distilled liquors. You still have a lot of drinks to select from, however, so do not get discouraged. Vodka, rum, sherry, brandy, wine, gin, and whiskey are all gluten free, and many mixed drinks can be made with no gluten contents. Try to adjust your drinking habits to your bodily needs. There is also Gluten Free Beer out there. It’s still a little difficult to find.

If you are going out for fast food, you are going to have to be careful. Don’t eat anything with a bun or biscuit around it. Wraps are healthy, but they are also full of gluten. Opt for a side salad instead. Avoid chicken with that salad though, as the breading will likely contain gluten. You can get bacon, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast and you can eat rice, salads, and potatoes for lunch. Meat patties are fine too, if you don’t mind eating a burger without a bun. Just follow your non gluten ways and you will have no issues with allergy relate breakouts.
